FOUNDERS STORY
I created Aptica because of a moment in the Mekong Delta.
Years ago, I was travelling through South Vietnam, deep in the countryside. I had my SLR camera with me—big lens, battery grip, everything. I was watching a group of women weaving fabric on a traditional loom, hoping to capture the moment. Then the camera failed. The mirror jammed, and just like that, it was useless.
Frustrated and without a backup, I pulled out my iPhone 5—just to try. What I captured with that phone surprised me. The photos felt more natural. The people were more relaxed. The images were real.
That’s when it hit me: people react differently to smartphones than they do to large cameras. There’s less pressure, less posing. With a phone, they stay in the moment. And that often makes for a better photo.
Aptica was born from that experience—a tool designed not for content, but for craft. It’s for photographers who care about the story behind a still image. Who want the feel of an SLR, the simplicity of a phone, and the soul of something timeless.
